Intercytex commences Phase I clinical trials of TrichoCyte, an innovative hair regeneration product

16th October 2003

Manchester, 16th October 2003: Intercytex today announced commencement of Phase Ia volunteer clinical studies to assess the safety of its hair-regeneration product TrichoCyte.

TrichoCyte - a cell-based product will be indicated for the treatment of male-pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia) - consists of autologous tissue culture expanded dermal papillae cells potentially capable of inducing the formation of new hair follicles. Compared with conventional hair transplants, TrichoCyte will be significantly less traumatic to the patient – requiring a smaller donor-site to be surgically excised from the scalp. This also means that patients who have insufficient hair to qualify for a conventional transplant may be treatable using the TrichoCyte system.

Completion of Phase I studies is scheduled for mid-2004; these safety trials will be followed by Phase II efficacy trials conducted mostly in the US.
